According to recent surveys, 95% of Canadian companies expect to increase hiring in Information Technology areas. 40% of companies expect to grow their IT staff by between 25 and 100 percent in the next few years.

What this means for today's student is that there has never been a better time to consider a career in Information Technology. Today's IT industry is fast-paced and always evolving. You can have a career that is both mentally challenging and economically rewarding. Today's IT industry will allow you to learn new skills and continually grow your abilities.

Saskatchewan is ideally suited to meet the needs of the IT industry across North America. Our low cost of living, central time zone, terrific Internet access, and highly skilled work force mean than many companies are looking to Saskatchewan to manage their data and information technology systems. Jobs in infrastructure and system administration and management as well as helpdesk activities will be in high demand. The need for programmers and developers will also remain strong. At the same time, our quality of life means that IT professionals can have short commutes, have good access to recreation and entertainment, and save a larger portion of their paycheques than their colleagues in other major cities.

If you are:

  • a logical, analytical person,
  • with good written and verbal communication skills,
  • have good problem-solving abilities,
  • are able to work with a minimum of supervision and direction, and
  • are polite, considerate, and interested in understanding the point of view of others
then a career in Information Technology might just be what you are looking for.
