ABSTRACT:

This presentation discusses various qualitative research approaches to conducting interviews. To begin, a qualitative research perspective is outlined. Then, two methods are discussed.

The first approach is Narrative Inquiry. Two projects, dealing with multi-generation small businesses and Chief Information Officers, will be briefly reviewed.

The second approach is based upon Personal Construct Theory and the Repertory Grid technique for eliciting and documenting individual interpretations. A project which investigated "Excellent" systems analysts will be reviewed.  The status of other projects involving this approach will be presented. This part of the presentation will include the elicitation of a construct from seminar participants.
