CS 390AO, Mobile Computing, Winter 2011, Wednesday 7:00-9:45 pm: new course (Expired)

The Department of Computer Science is pleased to announce a new course on Mobile Computing to be offered starting in January 2011.  The class is CS390AO.  It will be taught from 7:00-9:45 pm on Wednesday at the main University of Regina campus in room 209 of the Research and Innovation Centre.  This course will train students to write software for smartphones and other mobile devices, such as iPhones, iPads, Blackberries, Android-based phones, etc.  Registration for the course will commence on Tuesday, November 2, 2010, but it will proceed according to a University policy where students with the most classes taken go first.  Open registration will begin on December 1, 2010.

Description: Developing software applications (called apps) for mobile computing platforms such as smart phones, tablets and personal media devices. Topics may include touch-screen interfaces, power management, graphics optimization, communication, location, and mobile browsers. App marketplaces and network carrier policies will also be discussed. For each term, the course will concentrate on a single platform, such as iOS, Android, or Windows Phone 7, and culminate in a large-scale project.

Prerequisite: CS 115

If someone doesn't have CS 115, but they have the old CS 170 course or a knowledge of object-oriented programming, they should contact to see if they would be able to take the course.

Capacity for this class is 40 students

Hardware: none required; can use own mobile device if you have one

Software: iPhone simulator (or simulators for other devices)
