Early registration numbers up for CS majors (Expired)

University classes have started and many Computer Science classes are bigger than in recent years.  The registration numbers as of September 1 show that CS 100 is at its maximum enrollment of 286--completely full!  The planned section of CS 110 was also full with 209 students, so another smaller section was added.  Many upper year courses are also full.  The number of Computer Science undergrad majors is also up.  The numbers have been steadily increasing since 2008, with 152 in Fall 2008, 175 in Fall 2009, 192 in Fall 2010, and 204 in Fall 2011.  That's a 34% increase in four years.  According to Assistant Department Head Howard Hamilton, "We hit high registrations in 2001 with the Internet boom (or should I say bubble?) and then had decreases until 2008.  Since then, every year brings more students to Computer Science.  There's a lot of excitement out there over the opportunities in mobile computing and other new technology areas."
