New Nursing Informatics course to be offered by Computer Science in 2012 (Expired)

A new course in Nursing Informatics is being designed by the Department of Computer Science in consultation with the Faculty of Nursing. Dr. Lisa Fan, a faculty member in our department, is leading the effort.  The new course will be offered for the first time in Winter 2012.  It is entitled, "CS 104 - Introduction to Informatics for Health Professionals."  A course description is shown below:

Description: This course focuses on the acquisition of informatics literacy and applications of information technology in the management of health information. Topics will include: basic concepts of hardware (computers, networks, telecommunications) and software (spreadsheets, databases, web browsers), fundamentals of clinical electronic data systems and electronic medical records, issues related to security, confidentiality, and privacy of health information, library instruction on best practices in research and information retrieval, evaluation and utilization of information in evidence-based professional practice, problem-solving techniques.
