Research

1. Y. Y. Yao identified as the University's most cited researcher; seven other CS researchers in top 30 (Ziarko, Wong, Hamilton, J.T. Yao, Hilderman, Butz, X.D. Yang).

2. Four CS faculty members receive Discovery Grants: Butz, Hepting, J.T. Yao, Y. Y. Yao. Continuing: Hamilton, Mouhoub, Sadaoui, and Zilles. Hamilton receives two NSERC Engage grants for joint research with industrial partners.

3. Zilles receives best paper award at KI'2012; Simeon / Hilderman / Hamilton receive best paper award at INTENSIVE'2012; Mouhoub / Alanazi / Mohammed receive a Distinguished Paper Award at e-Case & e-Tech 2012.

4. Sadaoui's PhD student Mamun receives the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship, the most prestigious graduate scholarship in Canada. This is a first for the University of Regina.

Teaching

5. Enrolment in CS rises for 4th straight year: 17% undergrad increase in Fall.

6. Hoeber, a newly recruited professor, teaches updated web-oriented computing in Fall 2012.

7. Fan teaches a new CS 104 Informatics for Health Professionals course in blended format in Winter 2012.

8. Department approves a new Creative Technologies concentration, developed under leadership of Gerhard in consultation with Faculty of Fine Arts.

Outreach

9. MSI Computer Camp for teenagers and Science Summer Camp (with major contributions by CS's Clarke and Preikchat) are successes.  Special session of Summer Camp taught to students from Mother Teresa Middle School.

10. Hepting leads newly formed Sask. chapter of Computer Science Teachers Association as it connects many Sask. CS teachers.
