Computer Science Scholarships and Bursaries

by Larry Saxton

Students majoring in the Department of Computer Science have several, but not enough, scholarships and bursaries that are given yearly to them. Each year, the local section of the Canadian Information Processing Society gives a Bursary of $1000 to a student who will join the information processing community. In 2001, five eligible candidates applied for the one prize. Coop students are eligible, even if they are on a work term. The deadline for applications is January 31, so start early on your letter of application. To be eligible, a student must have completed 60 hours of classes with at least 18 hours in Computer Science, maintaining an 80% average. They must be registered in at least 4 courses in the semester the award is held. Finally, they must submit an application along with a letter detailing their expected impact. The details for all awards can be found through the Department’s web page at or

These include a Shell Canada Bursary and The Information Systems Management Scholarship which are available each year.
