Research

Interactive Information Retrieval

My work on supporting interactive information retrieval has focused on leveraging information visualization techniques to enable searchers to see information they need to make informed choices as they interactive explore among the search results and refine their queries.

Information Behaviour

I am interested in studying how people use information in their work tasks, with a particular focus on information seeking behaviour. An understanding of such behaviour can lead to the development of interfaces that enable beneficial behaviours for specific information-centric tasks.

Innovation

I have an interest in studying the process of innovation, from an organizational perspective. The success of the initiation, adoption decision, and implement of an innovation depends on the people involved in the process; understanding the factors that influence innovation processes can help organizations to embrace innovation.

Sport Analytics

A significant amount of data is collected in relation to sport events, yet the tools for analyzing such data to discover insights is limited. My research in this domain focuses on the analysis of stakeholder engagement via social media, with a goal of supporting qualitative analysis of such data.

Graduate Students & Postdocs

I am currently supervising a group of graduate students working on various research projects related to my primary research interests. I am seeking highly qualified students in the areas of interactive information retrieval and information behaviour to join my research group in 2023. If you are interested in becoming one of my students, send me and email describing your specific research interests and how they relate to my current work.

For January 2023 (+/- two months), I am recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to conduct studies of mobile search behaviour. Any recent Ph.D. graduates with a background in the areas of human-computer interaction or interactive information retrieval are encouraged to apply.
