It is also one of the most practical application domains for neural networks. Most research works in the field of rough sets so far, however, have been in "symbolic" approaches such as data and decision analysis, databases, knowledge based systems and machine learning. Observing the successful applications in other areas, control appears to be a promising application domain of rough set theory. Professor Zdzislaw Pawlak, the father of rough sets, suggested organizing a research group for rough control, applications of rough set theory to control problems. During the recent ACM CSC95 in Nashville, an initiation of the group was announced. Tosh Munakata of Cleveland State University will serve as the Chair, and Yiyu Yao of Lakehead University in Canada will serve as Secretary/Treasurer. Organizationally, this group will be under the umbrella of the rough set community, whose recent workshops were held under direction of Professor T.Y. Lin. As the first phase of organizing the group, we are trying to build a database of its members. Using rough set terminology, if you belong to the "positive region" of the group, of course you will sign up. But, even if you belong to the "boundary region," i.e., even if you are not certain whether you will be interested in rough control, please sign up. Later we will develop more details on what to do and how, etc. If you find the group is not an interest to you, you may drop your name at that time. The only thing you are required at this stage is to send email to: yyao@flash.lakeheadu.ca saying "Yes, I am interested in joining the RCG." Hope we hear positive feedback from you!
